A nineteenth-century hand-coloured wood engraving after an original work by Samuel John Carter (1835-1892), titled Parade of Thoroughbred Sires After the Yearling Sale at Middle Park, Eltham. The composition illustrates four noted stallions—King John, Saunterer, Blair Athol, and Marsyas—being paraded by grooms before a crowd of spectators. The artist signature Saml Carter is visible in the lower left corner of the image block. This relief print is presented in a double cream-coloured mount and a dark wood frame with a gilt-effect inner fillet. As the print is matted to the edge of the printed area, no plate marks are discernible.
