A vintage coal scuttle or log box of British origin, constructed from brass-clad wood. The interior upper rim features an applied brass plaque with the name Coalite in a stylized cursive script, identifying the piece as promotional or branded merchandise for the British smokeless fuel company. The front face is decorated with a heavily embossed repousse scene in the traditional Old English style, depicting a horse-drawn stagecoach with figures passing through a village landscape featuring a church spire and bare trees. The box is finished with brass binding to the top and side edges. It features a decorative cast metal handle at the top for portability. The interior and reverse are composed of dark-stained wood.
